Sophie

 

Sophie Morris is a singer, actor and presenter, who has performed to critical acclaim within New Zealand and internationally. She fell in love with being on the stage aged 10 when she was cast as Gretl in 'The Sound of Music', and hasn't stopped singing since. 

She holds a Bachelor of Music (First-Class Honours) in Classical Voice Performance and a Master of Music (Distinction) in Contemporary Voice Performance, as well as a Bachelor of Commerce from Otago University.

 

Live performances include appearances for Four Suits and a Soprano, Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park, The Silver Scrolls, Arts Festival Dunedin, Incognito Artists, Duco Events, Celtic Illusion and Celtica (Australia and New Zealand Tours), Dunedin Fringe Festival, Air New Zealand, NZ Blind Foundation/Eye Fund UK, City Choir Dunedin (soprano soloist - The Messiah), Starship Hospital, Rhian Sheehan (album tour), Christchurch Southern Opera, Cruise for a Cause (Milford Sound), iD Fashion Week, Opera Box Gilbert and Sullivan Tours and Chinese New Year Spring Festival (Nanning, China) among others.

 

In 2018 Sophie performed with The Ten Tenors as their first ever female touring guest on their New Zealand Wish You Were Here Tour as part of their 20th Anniversary World Tour.

Musical theatre and operatic roles performed include 'Jellylorum' in Cats, 'Sophie' in Mamma Mia, 'Rapunzel' in Into the Woods, 'Sandy' in Grease: The Arena Spectacular LIVE, ‘Barbarina’ (cover) in Le Nozze di Figaro, ‘Pamina’ in Magic Flute Moments, ‘Queenie’ in Honk!  and Sharpay (cover) in High School Musical.

Sophie has performed national anthems at various international sporting events including the 2020 Rugby TriNations, T20 Black Clash (Black Caps and All Blacks), Rugby League Four Nations, Oceania Cup, the Halberg Games and the Parker v Ruiz WBO World Heavyweight Championship Title Fight.

She has acted in film, television, theatre and commercial productions, including playing the role of Kaz on the iconic Kiwi TV show Shortland Street.

 

While living in the South Island of New Zealand was a regular presenter for the evening news at Channel 39. 

 

Sophie has performed sell-out nights of her own concerts “Sophie Goes to Broadway” and “Sophie Morris on Stage”.
